About gol ghar.

Gol Ghar is a historic granary located in the city of Patna, in the Indian state of Bihar. It was built by the British colonial government in the 18th century as a solution to the recurring problem of famines in the region.

The Gol Ghar is a massive, circular building made of brick and stands at a height of 29 meters (98 feet). It has a diameter of 125 meters (410 feet) and can hold up to 1,25,000 tons of grain. The structure has no pillars or beams to support it, and its unique design allows it to withstand even the strongest earthquakes.

The Gol Ghar was never used to its full capacity, as it was completed after the famines had already subsided. It was, however, used for grain storage during World War II, and as a supply depot during the Bihar famine of 1966.

Today, the Gol Ghar is a popular tourist attraction and offers panoramic views of the city of Patna from its top. It has also been converted into a museum, which showcases the history of the granary and the famines that plagued the region. The Gol Ghar is an important landmark of Patna and is considered to be one of the most significant structures of British colonial architecture in India.
